How does Ostara work?
We provide and install discrete telecare alarms and sensors. They are connected to our 24 hour monitoring and response centre in South Gosforth.
We create a personal plan with you and your carers to understand what support you need. The alarms and sensors are programmed to suit your daily routine. We receive an alert at our response centre from your alarm, if it detects any unusual activity.
If this happens, we contact you to check you're ok. If there is no reply, or you ask for help, we send help immediately. We can:
- contact your next of kin
- contact the emergency services when needed
- send one of our 24 hour response officers to your home to give you the help you need.
We're here 24 hours a day, every day of the year for you.
Our team and fleet of response vehicles are based in South Gosforth, so help is never far away.
Using Key Safes
We need a quick and secure way to gain access to your property if you need us in an emergency. The best way for us to do this is by installing a small key safe in a discrete position on the outside of your home.
The key safe is a strong metal box that stores a spare key so that when we arrive at your home in an emergency, we can get to you straight away to give you the help that you need. The key safe is programmed with a unique code which is known only to us and stored securely by us.

Digital Switchover
Landline phones are changing
By 2027, most phone companies will stop using old landlines. They will switch to new digital phone services.
This change will affect things like home phones and telecare alarms that use the old landline system.
What this means for Ostara equipment
All Ostara alarm units in people’s homes are now digital. These new units have:
- a battery that lasts up to 72 hours if the power goes out
- better connections to the network
- improved safety and reliability
